Inner Fender Aprons

Post by taco_kid »

replacing those torn or missing inner fender aprons. OEM parts are roughly $25 per piece, i have them available for about $32(set) shipped to your door. i own this site so dont think i am a scammer of some sort. PayPal, check, or MO is acceptable, i prefer PayPal to protect the buyer. i'll have PayPal link here soon, just need to adjust my PayPal products list to streamline the ordering process.

i am also the pioneer of DIY moleskin, and i had done that DIY on AcuraWorld forum for years under "Acura_Kid".

i have sourced some shore-80 0.062" commercial grade neoprene from WARCO in CA, 300sq.ft. rolls. i will trace the modified OEM patterns onto the sheet rubber, punch the holes and include the clips.

these kits contain all four (4) aprons.

here are some pics. 2006 GX470 non-kdss. KDSS has the left-forward that is different, and we have that one too.

hi all,
i was able to template the passenger side. i have all the templates ready to go. will be ordering bulk material on mon or tues.

side note - the passenger side aprons are very important for keeping crap away from spashing into the engine area where the alternator is very exposed, let along belts and other stuff.

there are 4 aprons in total, 2 of them are identical. i had to modify all 4 of them for better fitment and more coverage. the passenger front-side apron only needed minor modification.

i am also looking at using a different clip. the OEM style clips work just fine with ~0.040" materials, but they are are the edge of not grabbing with the 0.062" thick neoprene. i will call AUVECO on monday to find a better clip.

the aprons are available for ordering.
$30 for the full set + clips, shipping is included.

this set was made to fit non-KDSS and KDSS 2006 GX470 (item #1600, and #1603 for KDSS). it should fit all of the 1st gen GX470's (2004-2009).

ok, i did some digging, here is the part # list. in looking at these OEM packaged parts via gool images they appear to be the same aprons even though they have different part #'s. some are the same #'s, some are not. The non-KDSS aprons fit my non-KDSS GX470 with some fairly large gaps around the A-arm, i suspect the gaps are smaller on a KDSS model, but i am looking for real pics to compare.

2006 GX470 (KDSS) - was given a VIN # of a KDSS vehicle
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-35150 lh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron (kdss)
53886-35020 rh/lh rear apron

GX470 models (front fender inner aprons)
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-35150 lh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron (kdss)
53886-35020 rh/lh rear apron

GX460 models (front fender inner aprons)
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron
53886-60030 rh/lh rear apron

and to boot, i found these parts on Alibaba from CAPW (china auto parts window) for about $1 per piece (less shipping). but min order is 1,000 per part #, so i would need to drop $4k+ to get it from CAPW. i am contacting them to see if they can sell me 100pcs of each.

here's the install guide. this is a very easy DIY, but if you have questions please ask. a couple of the plastic fasteners may feel very tight, no worries, just push them in.

here's the optional but recommended relief cut for the RR and RL aprons. it is marked on the aprons as a cut-out. it gives some room for the upper A-arm. you could just fold the apron in this area but the relief cut is a tad neater.

and here's a pic of the FL apron.

just an update here.
one of our buyers has KDSS vehicle and we found that the non-KDSS apron did not fit the left-front position. so to fix that issue we bought the OEM KDSS piece as a template and sent a replacement to the buyer. all other aprons fit just fine on KDSS.

that said, we are adding another PayPal button specifically for KDSS vehicles. be sure you choose the correct product #.

use PayPal to buy apron set of your choice:

Got my aprons installed. Everything went smooth, these aprons cover a bigger area than the OEM ones. Here are some pics.

just a note. these aprons are shipped in a small diameter tube to save on shipping costs. when you get it unroll it and lay it flat for a day or so with some books (or the like) on them. you can cut them into individuals and stack them before putting weight on them. this simply gets them nice and flat before installation. if not then no worries, they will eventually relax after installation.

hi all,
today i had to increase the pricing from $30 to $32, this due to some pitfalls using USPS for shipping. i now ship via USPS Priority Mail. some of my non-priority mail packages have gone missing, lost by USPS. Priority Mail service has return service & insurance, and shipping is way faster.

sorry for the $2 increase.

hi all,
with some feedback from buyers of aprons i have learned that it is difficult to remove the rubber from the cardboard shipping tube.

so as FYI, for all future shipments of aprons, i will add a light dusting of talc powder to the outside of the rolled rubber sheet so it can easily be removed from shipping tube. i wanted to make folks aware of this so that 1) if you have issue with talc powder you can handle the product accordingly when you get it, and 2) you are not suspicious in any way of white powder when you open the package.

these kits contain all four (4) aprons.

Got mine in today and installed. Everything was great, the only minor issue was the the clip is lightly big for the hole on the strut tower so that took more effort to push in. Other then that shipping was fast, install was easy.

thanks TJ for the info and pics. and yes, the plastic clips supplied are a tad tight in the OEM holes. we had originally src'd OEM replacement clips but they did not work with the thicker rubber we are using, so we had to find next best clip to use. they take a little effort to insert, and they hold tight.

hi all.

the price for aprons will be going up slightly to reflect the rate increases USPS implemented in Jan 2017. the increase will be minimal.

also, from today forward, if you wish to cancel or return an order after it has been shipped, a -$10 ship fee will be applied to the refund.

Taco_Kid!!! Thank you for your hard work on this subject. I have a 2013 GX460, would these fender aprons fit my SUV (the base model) and there are all 4 in the kit, correct?

Please advise and thank you for your time, Max

I did find it odd that the 460 LH front apron matched the part # for 470 KDSS. The rear aprons may be the same shape but different Lexus part numbers. Let me check some part numbers again.

From the earlier post:

2006 GX470 (KDSS) - was given a VIN # of a KDSS vehicle
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-35150 lh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron (kdss)
53886-35020 rh/lh rear apron

GX470 models (front fender inner aprons)
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-35150 lh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron (kdss)
53886-35020 rh/lh rear apron

GX460 models (front fender inner aprons)
53735-35150 rh front apron
53736-60130 lh front apron
53886-60030 rh/lh rear apron
